STEVE & LISE

Steve grew up waterskiing behind underpowered outboards in the Land of 10,000 Lakes (a.k.a. Minnesota, USA). Since buying his first boat, he's been adding tow sports to his quiver as fast as possible and teaching others to have as much fun with them as he does. A long-time mountain biker and whitewater kayaker, he began organizing rafting weekends for 80 to 100 of his closest friends while working as a raft guide on West Virginia's Class V rivers. After 11 annual Gauley River Jamborees, he moved on to warmer waters, founding the Lake Anna Banana, an annual fly-in of 35 to 40 hydrofoilers in Virginia now heading into its 17th year. Steve has traveled in more than 40 countries, backpacking for months at a time. While living in Asia, he organized Hong Kong's Pan-Asian Ultimate tournament, which drew teams from six countries. He speaks basic Spanish more rapidly and confidently than he should.

Lise grew up downhill skiing in Europe and racing beach catamarans on New England lakes and in the Atlantic (brr). She has lived aboard a 32-foot sloop, crewed for crossings from the Bahamas to Florida, and navigated the Inland Waterway from Florida to Virginia in bad weather. She would rather have been windsurfing, at Canadian Hole or in Boracay. Lise has stamps from more than 30 countries and territories in her passports, and has lived in six countries on three continents. She speaks non-gringa Spanish, colloquial Dutch, French with a Swiss German accent, and what used to be decent Bavarian German.

Together, Steve and Lise have spent more than 20 years hosting and helping water-sports athletes and novices alike enjoy paddling, sailing, water skiing, kneeboarding, wakeboarding, hydrofoiling, and wakesurfing. No matter the sport, they make sure everybody enjoys their time on the water and off.

Throughout their travels, Steve and Lise have gathered a long list of "if onlys" . . . things that were good but could have been great if only the proprietor/leader/owner/vendor had taken that one extra step. Bacalar Boat & Board aims to eliminate the "if onlys" so that no guest ever thinks, "if only they had done that differently . . . ."

Our goal: Your time with us is always more than you expected.
